THYRAGE is a EC funded H2020 research project that will investigate the effects of thyroid hormone on a wide range of age-related diseases, including osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, neurological disorders and sarcopenia. Knowledge generated in this innovative project is needed to develop new strategies to prevent and treat these diseases in the elderly.

Successful PhD defence by Maxime Bos

On the 1st of October 2020, Maxime Bos, one the PhD candidates supervised by THYRAGE investigator Diana van Heemst, defended her PhD thesis at the Leiden University.

The defence took place in a hybrid format, with a small group present at the Academy Building while the opposition committee asked their questions via livestream. 

Her PhD project investigated the role of genetic factors and lifestyle on the risk of cardiometabolic diseases. Within the THYRAGE project she focused on the role of thyroid status on the risk of diabetes mellitus, on which two manuscripts are included in her thesis.
