THYRAGE is a EC funded H2020 research project that will investigate the effects of thyroid hormone on a wide range of age-related diseases, including osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, neurological disorders and sarcopenia. Knowledge generated in this innovative project is needed to develop new strategies to prevent and treat these diseases in the elderly.

From November 6th to 8th, THYRAGE investigators Duncan Bassett, Domenico Salvatore and Graham Williams attended the SfE BES Conference 2017 in Harrogate, organised by the Society for Endocrinology.

The conference programme included 11 symposia on a broad range of clinical and basic science, as well as several meet the expert sessions, clinical management workshops and poster presentations. Furthermore, several honorary lectures were organised.

On November 6th, many parallel sessions were organised and four plenary medal lectures. The programme ended with a debate on food taxation to revert trends in obesity. On November 7th, THYRAGE was represented by Duncan Bassett chairing the Bone and Calcium Network Meeting together with Colin Farquharson (Edinburgh, UK). The same morning, Graham Williams was the chair of the Society for Endocrinology Dale Medal Lecture.

Last but not least, Domenico Salvatore had the honour of giving the British Thyroid Association Pitt-Rivers Lecture on “Thyroid hormone in the periphery: what is new, what is next?” on November 8th.

The conference was once again very well organised and we congratulate the Programme Committee on this successful conference.
